Carmel uses Bowen Therapy, a technique that promotes balance and alignment in the body.

Little Ratatouille (Ratty) recently had an accident running 100 miles an hour into a newly installed fence.

She knocked herself out and was lying still, unable to move. We rushed her to the vet with little hope for her as we expected a broken neck or spine.
Once at the vet, she was given pain meds and x-rayed. The results showed no breaks, but nerve damage was apparent with her legs stretched out, unable to bend them, plus unable to move, being optimistic, the vet said he was sure of recovery with time and lots of love.

She is our baby, so we decided to give her a chance. Not going to lie; the first few weeks were tough on all of us, having to turn her hourly 24/7 syringe to feed and water her, but we saw improvements with movement each day, encouraging us to continue.

After two weeks, she lifted herself from her side to her belly but still required assistance, making dinner time much more manageable. During the next Vet visit, pleased with her recovery so far, I discussed maybe Bowen Therapy, as I heard that helps with the nervous system, plus some swimming for low-impact strengthening of her muscles. The vet advised that it would be fantastic, and she was ready to begin that treatment.

I contacted Carmel – Belleden Therapies re-Canine Bowen Therapy to immediately arrange a treatment. Carmel first assessed her condition and how best to start her treatment as she had little movement legs would still become stiff, and she certainly couldn’t bear weight.

Carmel used a technique for balance and alignment, a short treatment that would give her body a chance to process and be ready for the subsequent treatment a week later.

To my surprise, two days after the first treatment, she showed remarkable improvement and pulled herself up on her front legs, extremely shaky. Still, she continued to do this over the next few days, each day getting stronger and looking happier. She is only a pup, so was frustrated.

I am amazed at our results after only one treatment, so watch this space as we update little ratty’s recovery weekly!

WEEK 2 of Bowen Therapy 3 weeks since the accident, our update on our little Ratty!
WOW! more amazing results this week.
The past week she would get up on her hinds, lifting her front legs. This made life easier. I could ease up on rotating her on each side.
Carmel used the moves –
– Lower Back
– Upper Back
– Mid Back
– Neck
– Coccyx.

Once Carmel had completed her treatment, she seemed a little groggy and had a little sleep. I didn’t release that she was resting to give me grief all night!
She decided she could stand and wanted to do so all night, although for only seconds at a time, Ratty continued it was unsafe to leave her unsupervised as she is wobbly on those legs.

The following day – day one after treatment, Ratty wants to try walking, to my horror and excitement.
I spend my morning supporting her while we walk. Extremely slow,
she is very shaky, and her paws curl, so I need to adjust as we walk.Cute dog

I see her touching the ground, realising they are not flat and trying to correct them.
She cannot support herself but is determined, and if not supported, she falls almost with her legs in a knot.

I find it fascinating that after a Bowen treatment, she reaches another level. It is almost like Bowen is accelerating her recovery.

This is just Ratty’s fur parent observing her achievements daily.

WEEK 3 of Bowen Therapy 4 weeks since the accident, our update on our little Ratty!

Carmel used the moves –
– Lower Back
– Upper Back
– Mid Back
– Neck
– Coccyx

Ratty has become more independent and happier. Although she is very slow and unstable, she can often get around with the fabulous weather we have been having. We have spent a lot of time outside.
When the accident happened, I was advised that it could take up to 8 weeks for her to be able to stand and start taking some steps, so her progress is well ahead of what we expected.

Our update on our little Ratty!Dog having a bowen treatment with Carmel

Carmel used the procedures –
– Lower Back
– Upper Back
– Mid Back
– Neck
– Hamstring#2

Ratty is more confident running around playing and as happy as can be.
We still visit Carmel at Belleden Therapies once a fortnight to continue her treatment. She still has some issues with her balance and legs becoming sore after a lot of exercise, but I can’t thank or recommend Carmel enough. Our little girl would NOT be as mobile with the help of Bowen Therapy.

Week 6

I love to report that little Ratty is 95% back to her usual self. During her recovery, I noticed, as you all may have from the videos, that her left side seemed worse than her right side. However, when she has rested, she is fine. After running and tumbling around with our other dogs, she tends to get sore and limp a little. It’s heartwarming to see her run, but I do have to keep an eye on her.
I have continued a maintenance programme of Bowen treatments with Carmel every fortnight. Bowen Therapy reaches, realigns and rebalances her body. She is so much better after each treatment.
Carmel used the procedures: Lower Back, Upper Back, Mid Back, Neck, Shoulder and Wrist.

If you have a fur baby with aches and pains or may have suffered an injury, consider Bowen Therapy to help through recovery or pain management.
